Photographer Dina Goldstein’s series “Fallen Princesses“ has actually been around since 2009 but I had never posted the photographs as a complete set before. The project looks at Disney fairy tale princesses and their harshly realistic modern day lifestyles. Seems not everybody lives happily ever after. This project has won several awards, been published internationally in magazines, analyzed by experts in the field of Fairytale literature and studied in High schools and Universities.

On March 16, Jason Freeny will debut a new series of surreal sculptures at 101/exhibit in Los Angeles for his solo show, “Choice Cuts.” As the morbid-sounding title suggests, Freeny’s new body of work investigates mortality with a series of works that imagine toys as biological beings. Exaggerated imitations of the human body — like the Barbie or Kewpie Doll — become vulnerable and prone to medical incisions that expose their entrails. Freeny’s new work is both shocking and humorous; cartoon smiles and gleaming eyes soften the impact of the sculptures’ visceral qualities. Take a look at our preview of the show courtesy of Jason Freeny.

Russia’s Little Girls
“The Moscow Girls’ Cadet Boarding School is one of the new elite military academies in Russia. While most kids hate school for boring maths or history, the classes here include stripping down an AK-47 Kalashnikov rifle. And the girls can do it in the time it takes most kids to send an SMS. With a curriculum that includes drill, arms, first aid and federal law, one might expect it to turn into little Amazons. But femininity is also highly valued, so the evenings are reserved for such activities as sewing, ballet and compulsory choir practice. There are no mini-skirts and swear words, no smoking and drinking, and no hanging about unattended. Mobile phones are also banned except for a few minutes a day to talk with parents. A traditional Russian Winter Ball gives the girls a rare chance to meet the opposite sex, in this case from a nearby all-male boarding school boarding school called Moscow Cossacks Cadet Corps - another military-style academy founded during the Putin years.”
